KS1 use Lync to video call the Talyllyn Railway in Wales.

The topic this halfterm at Rufford has been transport. The opportunity arose to Lync (Skype for business) a member of the railway. Mr Jones showed us round the railway and answered questions. In particular he took us into the carriage sheds and also into the signal box. He explained how the railway maintains an excellent safety record by demonstrating points, tokens and couplings. He also answered any questions that the children had.

This activity was incorporated a transport day by prior to the Lync call watching a series of photos about the railway and writing questions. We also discussed what was expected during the call, covering different aspects of esafety. After the Lync call we used the steam train app on the ipad to create our own stories.

You can view a photo video of the day here.

Lync is available to all schools in Nottingham, the teacher 365 email account is also your log in to Lync. If you would like help getting started please contact either myself or the Schools IT team.
