28/1/10 -Strictly Come Robot Dancing-the judges have picked their winners
The judges have made their decision and picked a winner for the Strictly Come Robot Dancing Competition.

It was not an easy job. There were 46 entries from 9 City Schools: Melbury, Milford, Warren, Robin Hood, Brocklewood, Firbeck, Portland, Southwold and Seagrave Primary Schools.

23/6/09 -Strictly Come Robot Dancing!
This course is timed to coincide with the BBC TV programme "Strictly Come Dancing". It introduces a scheme of work that celebrates creativity and is differentiated for both KS2 and KS3.
A free DVD of resources will be given to people who attend the course. we shall design and make a costume for a robot, choreograph a dance sequence on the computer, film a robot performance and then edit the video. Opportunities to explore green screen techniques and accessing copyright free materials will be available.
This will be a popular course so early booking is recommended.

1/5/09 -A new network group for textiles teacher in Nottingham
You are invited to join a network group for teachers of textiles and textile art. In time this group will grow to provide support, contacts and training for teachers.
The first meeting will take place on Wednesday June 10th from 2:30 to 4:30.
In the first session we shall experiment with dissolvable stitch and tear and computer embroidery to create the flower shown.

The last control programming course was so popular that we are repeating the course. Wrex will return on Monday July 6th. We shall also be using Go Robo Dawg Trainer software from Q4 Technologies.

Are you in year 10/11 and studying textiles in years 10/11? If so - can you really afford to miss this opportunity???

Here at the South e-Learning Centre you can book a sewing machine for a day during the school holidays. Working with centre staff you can learn new techniques, produce samples for your coursework and extend your knowledge in a friendly and relaxing environment.

Shown here are the samples produced by Natasha Linton from Emmanuel School during her work experience placement at the centre.

It is essential to book in advance as places are limited to 8 per day. Phone 0115 9152971 to book or for more details.

26/2/07 -ADVANCE NOTICE
This year the centre will be holding it's first ever Textiles Week in June, 18-22 2007. During the week there will be opportunities to attend courses and meet other teaching staff interested in developing textiles work in schools. Some brief details are listed here.
WEDNESDAY:
A day course using Husqvarna 3d embroidery software. This will be led by Pam Neave from Husqvarna UK together with centre staff. An excellent opportunity to explore the software, learn new techniques and create samples.

THURSDAY:
A half day course using 3d sketch to simulate freehand embroidery. We shall also explore sublimation printing onto fabric and aligning the result with the 3d sketch embroidery file created. A lot to fit into half a day!

FRIDAY:
A day course led by Jamie Tinney. He has created some remarkable effects using fabric and the laser cutter. Not to be missed.

19/10/06 -Goose Fair School 2006
This year, children who attended the Goose Fair School from the showmen community worked on creating ebooks and also stop frame animations using the digitalblue cameras and software. To see some examples of their work, have a look at the projects in the tutorial area.

Are you interested in developing your ICT, D&T work further? All Primary schools should have received a copy of flyers outlining some of the activities available for your students either at the centre or with equipment brought into your school.
